Canon Grants Programme

The Tawaki Project has been named a finalist in the 2026 Canon Oceania Grants Programme, in the Environment category!

The Canon Oceania Grants Programme has supported 130 community organisations across Australia and New Zealand over the past 20 years, providing technology and funding to organisations making meaningful contributions to their communities. This year’s programme offered more than NZ$50,000 in prizes across four categories: Community, Education, Environment, and Cultural.

Our application proposed using a Canon grant to fund a camera and a new monitoring station. This would expand our ability to document and share the lives of tawaki and other threatened penguin species – beyond TawakiCam.

We’d like to thank Canon New Zealand for the nomination, and congratulate all the other finalists across the four categories for their outstanding work.
