“Tawaki, the Jungle Penguin”

The long wait is over.

“Our Planet II” just launched on Netflix. And in Episode 3 there is the section about tawaki from Shelter Island in Doubtful Sound/Patea we helped to film back in October 2021.

It condenses the tawaki breeding season into a 5 minute segment but still manages to highlight the tremendous effort female penguins have to make to raise their chicks and show the birds’ incredible journey halfway to Antarctica after the chicks have fledged. Absolutely stunning cinematography!

To say we are thrilled to hear Sir David Attenborough say “Tawaki” would be an understatement!
